Vuosien tauon jälkeen antauduin eilen, vuosien tauon jälkeen, kirjoittamaan tälläkertaa pienelle lukijakunnalle julkaistavan artikkelin. Hiukan jännitti - näkyvä minä soperteli suustaa jotakin enkaimänytsentään -tyyppistä puppulausetta. Todellinen minä hykerteli tyytyväisenä - hiljaa sisimmässäni mä olen jo kauan miettinyt, että pitäisi oikeastaan kirjoittaa taas. Joskus vuosikymmenen verran taaksepäin kirjoitin säännöllisen epäsäännöllisesti artikkeleja paikallislehteen. Kirjoittamisen haastavuudesta huolimatta nautin hommasta täysin siemauksin.

For the starters, behalf of Team                I would like to thank all and everyone for lovely and fun filled summer day in Saaremaa.

9 adults and 2 children – that was the composition of Team Helsinki for                  Summer Event 2013. Small by numbers, our Summer Event team was mainly due to common summer holiday season in Finland. Everyone knows how Finnish people do  love their summer cottages. Summer holiday, lovely weather, the cottage - a combination you go for, even if it means you have to sacrifice something pretty awesome, like
                Summer Event.
Our trip started on late Friday afternoon at Helsinki harbor. Quick gathering in the harbor café for collecting families and colleagues together for last minute check-up. Passports, sleeping-backs, pillows and important papers – everything along – we were ready to board.

In ship-shape and Bristol fashion we floated over the Baltic Sea. Early summer evening had arrived to Tallinn minutes before our carrier, Superstar glided in to harbor. Early Saturday morning wake-up in mind, we took a ride straight from harbor to hotel.

Notwithstanding the early morning awakening ahead, a goof start for Summer Event would have not been a good one, without a small early evening get-together at hotel.  Down in the casino we shortly celebrated the evening with sparkly drinks and good laughter.
In the meantime four floors up from casino the kiddos seem to be enjoying to be left alone in a nice and cozy hotel room – no nagging mom anywhere to be seen  –  sounds like jumping and hopping in a huge hotel bed until you're totally out of breath. Who could resist that? You – I bet not.

All fun must come to an end - soon enough mom’s back calling that now is time to sleep for everyone.

Saturday arrived way too soon. Rise and shine! In seconds we all were out of the bed and ready for an exciting day ahead. Breakfast in paper bags waited us in the lobby, we grabbed coffee on our way to the bus meeting point.  Two buses were arranged to carry us, the sleepyheads and non-sleepyheads, safely to desired destination, Pidula  Forell.  One buss filled with tiny steps and infantile giggles, the other one resounded with mature laughter and singsongs.

Few hours, some sleep and one ferry trip later the road trip part of fun was over.  Stepping out from the buses anyone could see the magic of Saaremaa already happening - the weather is blooming and everybody’s good mood. Then and there Summer Event 2013 had officially started.

Safe arrival was followed by moments of hurdle and hustle. Registrations, property checking plus some small bits and pieces–duties. Finally all settled - now what? What should we do next?
Simple answer was nothing – no one was expected to do anything. Well anything other than enjoy :) Enjoy the surroundings, enjoy the company or maybe enjoy a nice cold drink after a pretty long bus-drive.

Variety of enjoyment options in Summer Event was pretty wide – from well-organized team competition events to simply chilling out while enjoying the sun.  Among the Team Helsinki we tried pretty much everything available. Brave battles in water volleyball, fearless bare hands fishing and last but not least to mention here - the infamous Soap Workshop adventure (and no, we were not the lucky ones.  No soap on our souvenirs). It seems that our kids were most thrilled about the water. So eager they were to catch some tadpoles and valiantly attempt to do little swims in nearly ice-cold  reservoir.

Among sauna and swimming, time for arts and crafts was found too.  Today we know also here in Helsinki office the art of Saaremaa wreath making. Pretty heavy they ware, the wreaths we made in Summer Event workshop.
Every good party culminates with good music and fluid moves on dance floor – Dude, that's so ska!
From dusk ‘till dawn danced the bravest ones, while others – myself included – were gently slipped in dreamy worlds of sleepy wonderland.

Sunday so cruel, took us all back to reality. Wearying journey to home:  few hours of siting in bus and some more hours of waiting in harbor before waving gently for goodbyes to Tallinn.

‘Äiti, mulla oli kivaa.’ ’Mom, I had so much fun.’ Back home, those were the last words from my daughter before she totally slipped in to sleep, more than 12 hours of traveling behind her.
I stood in silence for a while.  Yeah, that Summer Event really was a great fun.

Rakkaudella,
Sallamari
